Android Golf GPS Apps

• GolfLogix

  The GolfLogix golf GPS application works on the Droid phone from Verizon wireless. You can now download the 24 hour free trial from the GolfLogix website (subscription is $39.99). Since battery life is a problem, you might want to consider a GolfLogix GPS Smart Phone Membership and Ultimate Retail Accessory Kit that will give you everything you need for your smartphone GPS (including the ability to greatly extend the life of your cellphone battery).

• GolfCard

  GolfCard is only $8.99! This hidden gem was selected by both CNN and Time magazine as the best iPhone golf app for father’s day (2009). It is now available at the Android Market. It has a database of 28,000 courses (one of the largest), a scorecard for multiple players, statistical analysis, and no subscription fees. Sprint and Verizon have recently featured GolfCard in their new phone ads.

• GreenFinder

  GreenFinder is a popular golf GPS app that also works on Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile phones. It can be downloaded and used five times for free, so you can try before you buy. It gives you distances to the front, center, and back of the green, as well as distances to fairway hazards and the distance of your last shot. It costs $35 and there are no additional fees: you can download all the courses you need and you can even mark your own courses.

• FreeCaddie

  FreeCaddie also works on Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Java enabled phones. FreeCaddie is free (no surprise there), but with the version you only get the bare-bones golf GPS features: distances to the front, center, and back of greens. That’s it. But hey it is free, so don’t complain too much. If you are not satisfied with the free stuff, you can shell out $24.95 for FreeCaddie Pro (still very cheap). With FreeCaddie Pro you get all the features you really want: distances to bunkers and hazards, a shot distance function, the ability to map your own points, and statistics and score keeping.

• Pocket Caddy

  Pocket Caddy from Satsports has 3D flyovers of the entire course and individual holes, distances to the front, center, and back of the green and other points of interest. It also has shot recording, statistical analysis and and a scorecard. With Pocket Caddy you can get a map of your home course included with purchase, or you can easily map courses yourself using Google Earth. Pocket Caddy for Android costs $33.00 US (with home course mapped) and $16.50 (without home course mapped).
