The OnPar GPS Unit is a relative newcomer to the golf GPS rangefinder market. It has a large 3.5 inch touch screen that allows you to locate any point on the hole: simply touch the golf ball icon and drag it to any spot to see the distance to that spot and the remaining distance to the green. This dynamic feature gives you full control over course management: you are not restricted in any way by preset targets.

At the top the display, the distances to the front, middle, and back of the green is prominently displayed. As you approach the green, you can take advantage of Green View, a marvellous feature that gives you a detailed map of the green. Green View also has an adjustable target icon that you can touch and drag to any position on the green. It will then display three key yardages to help you plan your approach. One of the white yardage markers indicates the distance from the pin to the edge of the green on your line of attack. The other white yardage marker gives the yardage from the pin to the side of the green, and the black distance label indicates the distance from the pin to the center of the green (this last distance is negative if the pin is nearer to you than to the center of the green).

Remarkably, there are no membership or course download fees for the OnPar GPS. You will have complete access to all available mapped courses.

Apart from the usual golf GPS information of yardages and detailed maps, OnPar has an extensive list of features that will allow you to completely analyze your golf game.

The Statistics feature keeps track of your shots, putts, birdies, pars, greens in regulation, etc.

OnMark allows you to mark any position on the course and save it for future rounds.

Perhaps the most important feature of all is OnClub. With OnClub you can keep track of the average distance for each club in your bag. During the round, as you are faced with a shot and are pondering the remaining distance to the hole, OnClub will even suggest the right club to select based on your average distance calculated for that club. This is really the feature that makes the OnPar golf GPS like having an actual caddy at your side giving you the actual distances for each club and recommending the club you should use.
