Snooper, the longtime maker of speed camera detectors and satellite navigation systems for Europe and the UK, has forayed into the golf GPS market with the G300 Shotmiser and the S280 Shotsaver (both the G300 and the S280 units still include optional satellite navigation and speed camera detector software). The G300 is a very compact touchscreen device that gives you a detailed colored image of the entire hole: not a photographic image, but a bright graphics display that makes it easy to distinguish between greens, fairways, bunkers, and other hazards. You can plot your way down the fairway with single touches of the screen. Touch the screen anywhere and the distance to that spot is instantly given. Since it always displays the distance to the flag, you can easily plan a precise layup shot. The screen zooms to your exact position when you are over the ball and, more importantly, rotates to keep you in line with your trajectory to the pin.
You can see a demonstration of the Shotmiser in action in the video below:
The G300 comes with a digital scorecard and statistical analysis feature that calculates key percentages like greens in regulation and sand saves.
Cost: £249.99 (without satnav), £299.99 (with satnav for UK/Ireland), and £329.99 (with satnav for either Europe or the US).
There is no annual fee or subscription, but additional course downloads cost £5.00 each (you get one free course with purchase). Most courses in the UK have already been mapped (with sub-meter accuracy). There are only a limited number of mapped courses in the US, but you can let the people at Shotmiser know which course(s) you need and they promise to have the course ready for download in 10-15 days.
